The inspiration for the creation of the TESLA brand was the famous electrical engineer Nikola Tesla. Later there was an explanation that TESLA is in fact an abbreviation for the words TEchnika SLAboproud. From its foundation in 1946 until 1990, TESLA operated as a national company – a group based in Prague – Strašnice, which united dozens of individual national companies throughout Czechoslovakia for the production of small electrical equipment (microswitches, light bulbs,…), a complete field of electronics from passive and active microelectronic components (transistors, resistors, tubes, integrated circuits, speakers, LEDs, screens, controls,…), consumer electronics (turntables, radio and television receivers, CD and videotape players, disc and cassette recorders, magnet) i large investment electronics for professional and military use (transmitters, telephone exchanges, audio chains for theaters and cinemas, radars,…). In 1989, the individual parts of the company became independent and privatized. For the most part, they disappeared. However, some companies have transformed into private companies with a different name or become part of larger units.
